Delivery and handling

Glass is heavy, and fire resistant units especially so. A little preparation before the lorry arrives protects the glass, the people unloading it and the performance you have paid for.

On delivery

How your order arrives

  1. Every order is dispatched securely packed in crates built for the units they carry. Wherever possible the glass should stay crated until it is at the point of installation.

  2. Please have suitable arrangements in place for offloading and moving the glass before the delivery arrives. Ballistic and fire resistant units are both extremely heavy, so mechanical offloading and enough people to handle the crates safely are normally required.

Once it is with you

EI glass handling directions

These directions apply to EI fire resistant glass. Correct storage and installation are what keep the certified fire performance intact.

  1. Due to the gel infilling, EI units can be extremely heavy. Please refer to the product datasheets for the specific weight of your product.

  2. Where suitable, weight rated glass suckers may be used to both sides of the unit of the standard EI glass makeup. On ISO units the weight of the unit should not be taken on the external solar control pane. Slings should be used to support the base of the glass and/or glass suckers may be used to the fire glass side only.

  3. Ensure glass is stored in a vertical or near vertical position at all times.

  4. Ensure no damage can occur to edge of glass during storage & handling.

  5. During storage, protect glass from exposure to rain and extreme weather conditions.

  6. Correct installation into framing systems will ensure the fire performance of the glass.

  7. During storage or transport, ensure that entire glass unit is supported at all times by evenly spaced wooden blocks.

  8. For internal grade glass, ensure the products are shaded but ventilated during transport or site storage.
